1.Africa is a beautiful continent rich in culture with great diversities- The culture of hospitality, The culture of respect for our elders (ancestors), the culture of high reverence for the high spirits, the culture of communalism and the culture of rich artistic expressions in visual and theatrical displays, Yes , Because Historically, Africa has contributed hugely to music-making in many other areas of the world most notably the Americas and most significantly in genres such as jazz, rock and roll, blues, salsa and samba.
2.African singers use a wide variety of sounds. The melodies are short, repeated over and over, also include whistles and yodels which is peculiar to African style of music. Soloist often improvises new melodies while the chorus continuous with the original melody creating a polyphonic structure.
3.DIFFERENCES OF TRADITIONAL AFRICAN MUSIC TO OUR MUSIC TODAY
- Western Music is, broadly speaking, expressed with emphasis on the downbeat, whereas African music seems to emphasise the rhythm on the upbeat. Sometimes, to the untrained ear, African music appears deceptively easy to reproduce, but once you try it, there seem to be layers beneath layers of rhythm.
