Answer:
1. Typhoon Ambo has made the first of numerous expected landfalls over the eastern Philippines on Thursday. Now with sustained winds of 155 km/h (96 mph), Ambo is equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane in the Atlantic and East Pacific basins.
2. When a system makes landfall on a large landmass, it is cut off from its supply of warm moist maritime air and starts to draw in dry continental air. This, combined with the increased friction over land areas, leads to the weakening and dissipation of the tropical cyclone.
3.When a cyclone hits land, the accompanying storm surge will most often flood the surrounding coastal area. Flooding is responsible for most deaths and economic damage associated with tropical cyclone landfalls.
