Did cars in the 1930s (specifically 1933) have keys? If so, did they start the car? If not, how did the car get started?
(Please only serious answers. I’ve already tried to search online for an answer but was unable to get a clear and concise one.)

Having a key start the car was not a thing till 1949. Till then the starter button was put in different locations (if the car had an electric starter). The electric starter does go back to the thirties. But between getting the choke right and other things that may have been required, just jumping in a car and taking off was impossible.
The model A did have a "key" which allowed the ignition to work. With this being a base Ford model I am sure other makers also had what amounted to an ignition immobilizer. It appears from vintage car pars supply houses a key for the ignition was pretty common by 1926.
But starting one could be as difficult as having to set the advance switch and fuel mixture on controls inside the car and having to crank it over with a hand crank.
the electric starter was the beginning of popular motoring ..it was first used on a cadillac ..there was first just a starter button ..but the key was soon in use..many years before the steering lock
