2. State collapse, breakdown, or downfall is the complete failure of a mode of government within a sovereign state. Sometimes this brings about a failed state, as in Somalia and the final decade of Yugoslavia. More often, there is an immediate process of transition to a new administration, and basic services such as tax collection, defence, police, civil service, and courts are maintained throughout, as in South Africa following the failure of the apartheid system.
3. State formation is the process of the development of a centralized government structure in a situation where one did not exist prior to its development. State formation has been a study of many disciplines of the social sciences for a number of years, so much so that Jonathan Haas writes that "One of the favorite pastimes of social scientists over the course of the past century has been to theorize about the evolution of the world's great civilization. The study of state formation is divided generally into either the study of early states (those that developed in stateless societies) or the study of modern states (particularly of the form that developed in Europe in the 17th century and spread around the world). Academic debate about various theories is a prominent feature in fields like Anthropology, Sociology, Economics and Political Science. State formation can include state-building, statecraft and nation-building.
4. Help people out during everyday life when you have the opportunity. While they may not be glamorous, small gestures of kindness at a one-on-one level are a great way to be useful in your community. When you spot an opportunity to make a direct intervention and help another person in your community, do it with a smile.

Mentorship programs exist for this purpose and allow adults to pass on personal or professional knowledge to young people who are struggling with an aspect of their lives.
Volunteer at a community organization to help others in society. Volunteering is a great way to interact with your local community and help out people who are less fortunate than yourself.
