Answer:
2. Adult butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight. Winged adults lay eggs on the food plant on which their larvae, known as caterpillars, will feed. The caterpillars grow, sometimes very rapidly, and when fully developed, pupate in a chrysalis. When the adult emerges, its wings are wrinkled, wet and deflated, but the abdomen is distended with fluid. The life cycle of a butterfly is truly amazing. Butterflies have four life stages, the egg, the larva (caterpillar), the pupa (chrysalis), and the adult butterfly. Each of the four stages are very unique to individual species of butterflies which is part of what makes watching and raising butterflies so much fun. All butterflies have "complete metamorphosis." To grow into an adult they go through 4 stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Each stage has a different goal for instance, caterpillars need to eat a lot, and adults need to reproduce.
