Fossil
One type of evidence that strongly supported the Theory of Continental Drift is the fossil record. Fossils of similar types of plants and animals in rocks of a similar age have been found on the shores of different continents, suggesting that the continents were joined.
Coasting matching
The similarity of coastlines for different continents suggests that they may once have been connected. But the fact that they were separated by sometimes thousands of miles suggested continental drift or plate tectonics.
Paleomagnetism
Paleomagnetism provides evidence to support theories in plate tectonics. Because the ocean floor is mostly composed of basalt, an iron-rich substance containing minerals that align with magnetic field, they record the alignment of the magnetic fields surrounding oceanic ridges.
Pangea, heat and magnetic orientation
Over time, the magnetic fields change. This means the pattern of those magnetic signature explains how old or new the rocks are at a specific location. Using this information, geologists proved that the rock of a tectonic plate is newest near a divergent boundary and becomes older as it moves away from the boundary.

According to the theory of plate tectonics, Earth is an active planet. Its surface is composed of many individual plates that move and interacts constantly changing and reshaping Earth's outer layer. Volcanoes and Earthquakes both result from the movement of plate tectonics.
