Answer:
The ability to copy/paste/move layers around. I can re-use things like perspective lines. If I don’t like where something is located, I can move it and see if it looks better in another location. I can hide and show a piece I am unsure of to flip quickly between multiple options. For example, when creating a character, I will often try out several different hair or eye colors.
I can switch between brushes without effort. If I need to change the size, or even a style I can. When I paint, I have a can full of brushes by my side. If I want to clear a whole layer I can do that with one click. I can erase easily and cleanly , unlike with many traditional mediums.
When I am working with colored pencil, not only can I often not erase, but if I use up the tooth of the paper I can’t add any more layers. If I forget to leave a white space, it’s almost impossibly to add strong highlights without either grabbing for white paint (which isn’t always archival) or an Exacto knife.
It’s also cheaper because once you invest the money, you don’t have to continually replenish unless you want to upgrade. Sure, an art program, a computer or tablet, plus a graphics tablet aren’t cheap. But neither are top of the line art supplies. And I don’t need to worry about having multiple brushes, or multiple colors, or the right size canvas or paper, or templates
