First we need to define what is a linear pair? A linear pair are two angles that makes a line. A line is 180 degrees.
So that means <1 + <2 =180 but let’s call those unknowns as x and y, So now it’s x+y=180
We also know that one angle is 1/3 the measure of the other. That means we could say x = 1/3y So now we must use substitution to find the unknown angles.
x+ y =180
1/3y + y =180 Replace x with 1/3y
1 1/3y = 180
4/3y = 180
y = 180(3/4)
y=135
Now find x: x= 1/3y
x= 1/3(135) replace y with 135
x= 45
Ans: x= 45 y=135 OR m<1=45 m<2 =135
