Activity 2. Phase Changes Using the Particle Model of Matter
Objective: Explain phase changes using the particle model of matter.
Directions: A. Study the illustrations below. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper.
1. What happens to the arrangement of particles of matter in solid, liquid and gas as the temperature increases?
2. What happens to the kinetic energy of particles of matter in solid, liquid and gas as temperature increases?

Answer:
1. The particles gain kinetic energy and move faster .
2. As the temperature increases the kinetic energy and speed of the particles does not weaken the forces between them. The Solid particles moved in fixed position while liquid and gas particles have no fixed positions and move chaotically.
