Nature and Background of Festival
Panagbenga
-Panagbenga Festival ( transl. Flower Festival) is a month-long annual flower occasion in Baguio. The term is of Kankanaey origin, meaning "season of blooming". The festival, held in February, was created as a tribute to the city's flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon earthquake.
Dinagyang
-The Dinagyang festival history started in 1967 when an Augustinian priest from Cebu gave a replica image of the Santo Niño as a birthday gift to a fellow Augustinian priest in Iloilo. Since then, a novena mass was held every Friday at the San Jose Parish Church.
Maskara
-MassKara was conceived by the Art Association of Bacolod (AAB), the intention of which was to creatively organize a street dance parade thus getting away from a “meaningless” civic-military parade. It was also meant to hide the tears and sorrows brought about by the sugar crisis and the MV Don Juan sea mishap.
The MassKara Festival (Hiligaynon: Pista sang MassKara, Filipino: Pista ng MassKara) is an annual festival with highlights held every 4th Sunday of October in Bacolod, Philippines.
Moriones
-The Moriones is a lenten festival held annually on Holy Week on the island of Marinduque, Philippines. The "Moriones" are men and women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Imperial and Royal Roman soldiers as interpreted by locals.
It is a colorful festival celebrated on the island of Marinduque in the Philippines. The participants use morion masks to depict the Roman soldiers and Syrian mercenaries within the story of the Passion of the Christ. The mask was named after the 16th and 17th century Morion helmet.
Lanzones
-Lanzones Festival, an annual event marked in the month of October, is a four-day festival held to celebrate bounty harvests of the Lanzones fruit. Lanzones, also known as langsats, is a type of tree in the Mahogany group of plants, and whose edible fruits are a favorite for many people in the Philippines.
Ati-atihan
-The Ati-Atihan festival is a Philippine festival held annually in January in honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child or Infant Jesus) in several towns of the province of Aklan, Panay Island. The biggest celebration is held during the third Sunday of January in the town of Kalibo, the province's capital.
Ibalong
-Ibalong Festival is a colorful week-long event that draws both locals and foreigners to sample the culture and lifestyle of the people of Legazpi City. The festival kicks off on the 25th of October through to the 31st of the same month.
