Yes all you need is paracetamol suspension.
The E numbers in Calpol are its colouring E122, Sorbitol E420 and propyl parahydroxybenzoates E218 and E216 and are not known to be harmful these are there to regulate and keep the medicine mixed properly so that all the quanitities remain stable.
Other products are available but you should be aware aspirin based medicines which are more harmful to the stomach that paracetamol based products.
So go to a chemist and ask for infant suspension.
Calpol Alternative
I was a bit worried about the red colouring in Calpol, so I found Disprol - it is infant paracetamol too, but hasn't the red or the yellow colours. I am not sure if it is still available - I can't find it anywhere now, but that is maybe just because it didn't sell well in my town!
However, I just stick to Calpol now, but not the no sugar stuff since I don't want artificial sweeteners in mine or my son's diets as much as I can avoid them. The way I see it, if my son needs painkillers, then I don't mind a little E numbers, I keep them minimised in our diets anyway, so I would rather my son have a little of them and no pain than be in pain but have no E numbers.
Many chemists also do thier own brand childrens pain killers, so they may be worth checking out - the assistants wont mind you asking about what is in them.
Remember, though, not all E numbers are bad, man made things. Some E numbers are just other terms for vitamins and things and are perfectly natural. Such as Ascorbic Acid - that is vitamin C.
Hope this link helps - it is a list of E numbers and most can be clicked to find out what they are and where they come from.

How do you know it is the calpol?
To be honest I feel that the immunisations are more likely to be the cause of the restlessness than the calpol.
Your child has been opened up to various viruses and had a needle jabbed into them, this can make muscle hurt...my son was extremely upset by the whole process and my daughter screamed non stop for three days due to a bad reaction to the immunisation.
I found that putting them in the bath as soon as I got home and rubbing the needle areas made them less restless.
Unfortunately at 8 weeks there isn't an alternative until 3 months when you can give baby nurofen & more doses of calpol. I would adhere to the extra cuddles etc until then as its not worth the risk xx
Medised or Nurofen for children. Not sure what e numbers they have in it thou. I have always used Calpol for my 13 month old daughter it is the best one i found.
Medised usually works for us. It also contains a very mild sedative which helps the baby to sleep, but I know a few people aren't happy about using medicines with sedatives, though it is a really low dose so is harmless.
if you go to your doctor they are able to give you medinol that has less e's as my daughter always went hyper on calpol and not on medinol
Medised - but no better really. Just limit the use of either as much as you can.
