BETWEEN ODDS by Roy D. Frayna
Life indeed, as what they say Has gloomy and merry days Tiresome it is with all the blues Dreary it is with all the bliss Better trace the center Where polarities pull each other One sees and feels both perspectives Comprehending the toppled and upside down at twilight when light fades to darkness During deep sleep When consciousness turn to slumber In the midst of the flow and the ebb The eyes rejoicingly watched and the nose overwhelmed The life behind is celebrated In the time of departing Whilst being taken To the next destination

Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
Books on sale not only include the institutional names in Bicol history and culture but also the emerging breed of Bicolano writers.
For instance, a Bulusanon writer was for the first time included, representing a language/dialect that differs from the Bicol’s ‘lingua franca’. Publishing this other Bicol form showcased the diversity of the Bicol language and provided a sense of balance to the Bicol’s linguistic map. I t ensures that Bicol ‘other’ tongues will not be forgotten.
Between Odds represents improbability and probability when it comes to differences
