A. SAMPLE SPACE- A sample space is a collection or a set of possible outcomes of a random experiment. The sample space is represented using the symbol, “S”. The subset of possible outcomes of an experiment is called events. A sample space may contain a number of outcomes which depends on the experiment.
B. EVENT- An event associated with a random experiment is a subset of the sample space. The probability of any outcome is a number between 0 and 1.
C. EXPERIMENT- A scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
D. Element- An element is a pure substance that is made from a single type of atom. Elements are the building blocks for all the rest of the matter in the world.
E. RANDOM VARIABLE- A random variable is a variable whose value is unknown or a function that assigns values to each of an experiment's outcomes. A random variable can be either discrete (having specific values) or continuous (any value in a continuous range).
