Kicking a ball
When you kicked the ball, you applied some force F on it which accelerated it through some value (depending upon mass of ball). At that moment, ball also applied same force (F) on you but in opposite direction. Since your mass is much larger than the ball, it requires larger force to move you.
Sliding a sofa
Acceleration occurs when the external force is greater than the force of kinetic friction. Slowing Down (or Stopping) occurs when the force of kinetic friction is greater than that of the external force
Pulling a chair
the object will move in the direction of the force.
