Answer:
1.Cohesive devices are words like 'For example', 'In conclusion', 'however' and 'moreover'. Together with coherence, cohesion provides 25% of your marks in both parts of the Writing test. However, most students have not been taught how to use them effectively.
2.Cohesive devices are words or phrases used to connect ideas between different parts of text. There are three main types of cohesive devices: Pronouns that refer back to a previously mentioned noun. Example: Jim went out to the playground.
3.The term 'cohesive devices' refers to the conjunctions, connectives and pronouns used to link the parts of a piece of writing. Using the same verb tense throughout a text also offers 'cohesion'.
4A cohesive text is created in many different ways. In Cohesion in English, M.A.K. Halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan identify five general categories of cohesive devices that create coherence in texts: reference, ellipsis, substitution, lexical cohesion and conjunction.
5.There are two main types of cohesion: grammatical cohesion: based on structural content; lexical cohesion: based on lexical content and background knowledge. Cohesive devices can make information clearer, easier and more succinct to read and understand.
Hope it helps
