1.)Sound is a form of energy produced and transmitted by vibrating matter. Sound waves are compression (longitudinal) waves. When compression (longitudinal) waves move through matter (solid, liquid, or a gas), the molecules of the matter move backward and forward in the direction in which the wave is traveling.
2.)Three ways of transferring heat energy. All heat energy, including heat generated by fire, is transferred in different ways: Convection transfers heat energy through gases and liquids. As air is heated, the particles gain heat energy allowing them to move faster and further apart, carrying the heat energy with them.
3.)How is light energy formed? Light is made up of photons, which are like tiny packets of energy. When an object's atoms heat up, photon are produced from the movement of atoms. The hotter the object, the more photons are produced. Natural sources of light include our sun and other stars, where the source of energy is nuclear energy (recall that the moon does not produce light but merely reflects sunlight), lightning, where the source is electrical, and fire, where the energy source is chemical.
Transmitting light
Although light can travel through a vacuum, it can not travel through all objects. When light strikes an object, it can be transmitted, reflected or absorbed. The object is made of molecules, and each molecule has electrons, capable of jumping to higher energy levels by absorbing energy. A simple definition of light transmission is: When light travels through a medium such as glass without being reflected absorbed or scattered. When this happens light energy is not lost and can be considered 100% transmitted.
