The Characteristics of John the Baptist
Pious
John was described in the Bible as a man who often preached about Jehovah God, about forgiveness and sin, and the way of living that pleases God.
Brave
John was not one to cower in fear. He bravely spoke against people who were not living according to God's will. He even bravely went up to King Herod and told him about his sins and how he could be forgiven by God.
Helpful
John the Baptist was given this nickname because he would be found baptizing people in the River of Jordan as a symbolic way of offering themselves to Jehovah God. This was not paid work at all but he helped people find their way so that they can devote themselves to God. He also baptized his cousin, Jesus Christ.
Joyous
John was the only child of a very old couple. When he came into this world, his parents were filled with joy and it can be said that John was a child who brought happiness to the home and was also brought up to be a happy person. John also expressed his happiness after the baptism of Jesus when the skies opened up and God declared Jesus as his son.
Appreciative
After Jesus' baptism, he started his ministry and it started to grow wide. John's ministry, on the other hand, was starting to get smaller and he would no longer do as much preaching as he used to do. John never felt jealous of Jesus. Instead, he accepted and appreciated the ministry that Jesus started. He was happy and content that he would teach and baptize people.
