MELODY
- is the aesthetic product of a given succession of pitches in musical time, implying rhythmically ordered movement from pitch to pitch. Melody in Western music by the late 19th century was considered to be the surface of a group of harmonies.
HARMONY
- is the sound of two or more notes heard simultaneously. In a narrower sense, harmony refers to the extensively developed system of chords and the rules that allow or forbid relations between chords that characterizes Western music.
RHYTHM
- Rhythm is music's pattern in time. Whatever other elements a given piece of music may have patterns in pitch or timbre, rhythm is the one indispensable element of all music.
DYNAMICS
- refers to the volume of a sound or note. The term is also applied to the written or printed musical notation used to indicate dynamics. Forte means loud and piano means soft.
