Do employers have the same perception of aims for schools as does the general population?
Employers played a relatively minor role in the development and delivery of courses. Employers were more likely to provide guest lectures, workshops, seminars, skill sessions (including one-on-one tutorials and interview simulations), case study material, and data for use in courses. Employers, particularly those in the financial sector, were occasionally involved in supporting and subsidizing extracurricular activities such as sports groups. More employer input was seen in the design of courses for part-time and foundation degrees where access arrangements with local colleges were in place. Employers had a supervisory role for project work in some courses, providing comments and giving feedback.
They provided feedback to students, but there was no evidence that they were involved in the assessment process. Employer engagement was not seen by all HEI representatives.
