It depends on where you work. white uniforms and lab coats or lab jackets may scare a little kid and may make adults nervous.
Generally nurses wear "warm-ups" the short jackets with knit cuffs/pockets that match or complement their scrubs. The hierarchy of who gets to wear coats is pretty stringent (not written down but implied). Lab can wear them if their lab allows it (some labs have gone to infection control cover ups) and then some allied health & the medical staff (PAs, NPs, MDs, podiatrist etc). In the UK they are "outlawing coats" for infection control.
