Answer:
On Tuesday (08/11), the Supreme Court of the Philippines ruled that former president and dictator of the Philippines, Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos, deserves to be buried in Heroes’ Cemetery. As we all know, Marcos was one of the most notorious figures in Southeast Asia, or even the world, during his era.
His popularity, however, was built under constant human rights abuses and dictatorships, as he governed the Philippines with an iron fist. For approximately 21 years, he built an empire for his family, abused his power to the maximum level for his and his family's interests, and of course, declared martial law which saw more than 7,000 people jailed, 34,000 tortured and 3,240 people killed.
He was exiled after the 1986 People Power Revolution dragged down his regime from power and passed away in Hawaii. From the time of his death until today, several attempts to conduct a burial for his body had been done by the Marcos family. In 1989, President Corazon Aquino imposed a ban against the entry of Marcos' remains into the country. The ban was lifted in 1991.
But, it was not until 1992 that Marcos' body entered the Philippines with several conditions attached. The remains of Ferdinand Marcos was to be flown directly from Hawaii to the province of Ilocos Norte, where military honors for someone with the rank of major were to be given to Marcos. There was no parade displaying Marcos' body and his body was not to be buried at the Heroes’ Cemetery but in Ilocos Norte.
