The empirical formula of a compound expresses a ratio between the numbers of atoms of different elements present in a molecule of the compound. This ratio is a mole ratio as well as a ratio between numbers of atoms. From the formula it is possible to calculate the percent composition of a compound.
Molecular Formula
A molecular formula consists of the chemical symbols for the constituent elements followed by numeric subscripts describing the number of atoms of each element present in the molecule. The empirical formula represents the simplest whole-integer ratio of atoms in a compound.
Structural Formula
Structural formulas identify the location of chemical bonds between the atoms of a molecule. A structural formula consists of symbols for the atoms connected by short lines that represent chemical bonds—one, two, or three lines standing for single, double, or triple bonds, respectively.
Explanation:
Answer:
EMPERICAL FORMULA- The empirical formula of a chemical compound is the simplest positive integer ratio of atoms present in a compound. A simple example of this concept is that the empirical formula of sulfur monoxide, or SO, would simply be SO, as is the empirical formula of disulfur dioxide.
MOLECULAR FORMULA- Is a way of presenting information about the chemical proportions of atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound or molecule, using chemical element symbols, numbers, and sometimes also other symbols, such as parentheses, dashes, brackets, commas and plus and minus signs.
STRUCTURAL FORMULA- identify the location of chemical bonds between the atoms of a molecule.
