Pancreas plays two function, (1). it secretes digestive juices for the digestive system and (2). it also secretes hormones for the endocrine gland.
The pancreas is consists of group of cells that is associated with blood vessels. These group is called Islets of Langerhans (it includes two types of cell— alpha cells which secretes the hormone glucagon, and the beta cells that secretes hormone insulin).
Function of these two hormones are:
Glucagon — it stimulates the liver to produce glucose from glycogen and non carbohydrates.
Insulin— it promotes the movement of glucose through some cell membranes. It also stimulate the storage of glucose, promote synthesis of proteins, and stimulates the storage of fats.
