Lovie, I know a pony who is in her fourties and still COMPETING. I know a gelding who is 48 years old and only stopped competing a few years ago. I know a 28 year old mare who is still jumping 1 metre. She is very boney and looks half dead- hell, she is still awesome!
18 years old, isn't actually that old. I consider 15 years old to be middle-aged for a horse and she is only a few years older. *Providing* she is fit (otherwise you can get her fit) and healthy with no soundness issues then you can do as much as you would with a younger horse. Yes; you can gallop. Yes; you can jump her. Yes; you can do the hunt on her in October (just get her fit enough). You can compete her, trek her... ETC.
Honestly...
=)
18 isn't old haha my horse is 7 but 18 isn't old... old is 30... which is how old one of the ppl at my barns horse shoshoney is any way im sure you can gallop her :) , and im sure you can do hunt on her in october , also jumping would probably be good for her ...as long as shes sound and not green she should be fine hope i helped
You can do whatever she is used to doing. 18 isn't that old. I'd stay under 3 feet if you jump and if you gallop, you better be able to ride it. Race horses can move!
ask the owner what she is capable of doing
18 isnt old i have a 24 year old tb whos an ex jumper but to see him you would think hes a youngster hes full of beans and boy can he go ive also a 35yr old arab whos the same i retired him a year ago but had to put him back intolight work as he was so misrible doing nothing
ex racehorse? watch out if you r galloping haha. she isn't really that old and you could probably jump her a bit.
Be Very Careful. They are trained to RUN. Pulling back on the reins might not stop her, the jockeys stand in the stirrups to get them to slow then stop.
It all depends on how good of shape she is in and if she is sound.
But I assume she would be fine. Trial and Error
All questions for the owner.
love her instead of forcing her to continue "working" man, people are so selfish...
