Power Balance bands (even real ones) are made from a piece of rubber with a hologram sticker inside. The effect of the bands, also known as the Placebo Effect, is scientifically proven. If you believe that the band will help you improve your balance and strength, it probably will. If you don't, it won't. This effect has been researched in pharmaceuticals to the point where drug trials must be crafted to control for it. So for every person that claims Power Bands are modern day snake oil, there is another who truly does benefit from being a believer. Detractors of Power Balance bands will question the intelligence of anyone who believes that a rubber band can improve their strength, and these people would be right. However, it is precisely the people who legitimately believe in the power of the bands that find them the most helpful. The Placebo Effect only works if you actually believe. In your case, if having a hologram sticker that says "authentic" will help you believe that the bracelet has a real effect, then you should hurry out and pay the $40-$80 asking price for an "authentic" rubber band. Otherwise, I would recommend that you save your money.
