The beginning of any serious philosophical inquiry is the ability to question—to be skeptical of—even your most closely held, even sacred, beliefs and assumptions.
In order to be able to find wisdom, you have to be able to lose yourself, because you are a lens to the world which might have become warped by any number of ideas which are preventing you from seeing reality from the various perspectives that might glean truth.
Nothing can remain sacred in the pursuit of truth. Even your love of truth itself might warp your pursuit. Question everything, especially yourself, and new perspectives on the world will begin to enlighten and re-shape your lens.
