No. With negative numbers, the bigger the negative number is, the smaller it gets. For example, -1 is bigger than -10 or -100.
If we look at it in a straight line (see attached image), the farther it is from zero (0), the smaller it gets. Now comparing -17 and -14, -14 is closest to zero than -17, that’s why -14 is bigger than -17.
