I have a 1 ½ yr. old Rottie and he loves to drink water from my koi pond. It’s a 1600 gallon pond with good filtration. I just don’t know if it will make him sick. So far no issues, I'm just worried, thanks.

Is drinking pond water bad for dogs?
Verified answer
Yes, he can get sick and need to go to the vet. Lepto.
Koi Pond Labradors
If your fish are healthy in the pond, chances are the pond water is clean enough to be OK for your dog. All of the chemicals used for fish health (prazi, dimilin, pro-form, etc.) are all variations of the same de-worming, anti-bacterial drugs vets use for cats, dogs, cattle, etc. If your pond is green, foamy, and scuzzy, your fish probably aren't very happy and neither would your dog be, if he drank from it (chances are he wouldn't, though, unless he was EXTREMELY thirsty - animals are often smarter about that stuff than we give them credit for!). I have kept both koi and dogs for the past five years or so, and although I have had plenty of fish come and go during that time, I've never lost a dog to drinking pond water....
Hope this helps.
So long as it's not treated with anything that could harm the dog, it should be fine. I suspect that a Koi pond is untreated water. I can't think of any reason why it would give the dog problems.
If it's your pond, than you know better than we do what chemicals you put in there. If it's just filtered tap water, no problem. There's nothing about the fish that will make him sick.
Lepto infection is not very common in dogs. He would be most likely to get it if he drank from a puddle of standing water somewhere in a field where infected wild animals have been peeing.
Make sure he doesn't develop an interest in fishing, though!
Leptosporosis comes from drinking contaminated water.
Water in a pond even if filtered and become contaminated by wildlife that may leave waste in or near the water.
I would be sure your dog is getting hte 4 way Lepto vaccine.
arf arf arf. thats dog for its ok. every cat in the neighborhood drinks from my pond and none have turned up dead yet. the only reason water might be riskywould be if it was polluted with fecal matter with ecoli. so if u havent found anyone pooping in your pond, u will be ok.
I would think the biggest risk to your dog would be parasites living in the water and parasites than can be ingested along with mosquito larvae. It would be best to prevent him from drinking the water.
If your water is filtered then your dog will be fine. It is only bad if the water is stagnant and scum filled.
lol, my dog eats his own poop and drinks out of the toilet and he's doing just fine :) haha, he's gonna be ok
