Hey, we need to eat, don't we? If that is what you want, I would recommend asking for a slot in October, since that is when the year begins in the Military, and the MOS come back with plenty of open slots available, and a better chance that you will get it.
In fact, it is coming to the point that we have Civilians cooking our chow for us, so I would say: PLEASE, WE NEED YOU!
I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure there is since not to many people join the military to cook, usually people are put into that MOS if they have an open contract. If you cant get the MOS you want now, you can always see if the reserves have the MOS you want and go that route, otherwise you're going to have to wait until October for the new fiscal year to take effect thus opening up new slots for basically every MOS.
I didn't know they still had USMC cook...I could be wrong though.
I was eating dinner with my husband at MEPS last week and we started talking to an army recruit who was ex-USMC and he said his MOS was cook, and he was switching to the Army because the Marines didn't have the cook MOS anymore.
(sorry that's probably not much help)
It's a good career field and is perfect to prepare you for management in food service. Some people might try to put it down because it's not one of those flashy MOS's, but it is vital to The Corps, every job that supports our Infantry is vital.
Good Luck!
hahah yes thats the worst mos you can have but if it's what ya want then go for it they usually have that mos field open score low on the asvab if you have'nt taken it yet and you'll get it. good luck!
