I LOVE this fight because it could go either way. I have always said that, though I think ALI takes a decision over Holmes, Holmes can beat anyone ALI can beat but easier. Here's why.
ALI is quicker and does not punch as hard as Holmes. Of ALL the champions, Some might have faster hands than Larry but they have so many other weaknesses that Larry can over come the deficit. Joe Louis is the only one who stands between Holmes and ALI. I think Louis loses to ALI but could likely stop Holmes late. Holmes has a very good chance of winning that one too.
I think Holmes wins this one all the way. Like I said, anyone ALI can beat, Holmes can beat easier. He brings, not the speed of ALI but enough speed to get the job done. He brings more power than ALI and he has just enough footwork to keep a good range. No one else has Larry's one weakness, ALI's Hand/Foot speed.
I pick Holmes to stop Tyson late and I pick him to do the same to Frazier. Tyson takes a better punch than Frazier. He also delivers a harder punch with both hands.
Look at the times Larry has been hurt. Its' not with a left hook but a right hand. He would know enough to avoid Joe's left and render it useless. Joe's right is more of a parrying tool. He doesn't really BANG with it. Larry might get caught on the ropes but you can be assured he will not allow himself to be there too often. He keeps the fight at ring center were Joe pays a HEAVY price for getting in.
I take the Holmes who faced ALI in 1980 vs the Frazier of 71. He was at his absolute best against ALI, who brings out the very best in everyone. However, Frazier was never the same AFTER ALI. Believe it or not, he would have given Forman a better go at it if he had not fought ALI first. He still would have lost.
Larry is great at blocking punches from the outside. He doesn't LOOK pretty but he's a master at deflecting punches, especially the left. Like I said, it's always been the RIGHT Larry would know enough to keep Joe on the outside. Blocking the left was never really difficult for him.
Joe would leave himself open for the straight right and the uppercut. ALI hit Joe A LOT of times. Larry would hit him a little less frequently but a lot harder. Frazier's face would lump up just as it did in ALI 1. He lands his share of punches too and he never gives up.
Unfortunately, the punishment takes its toll. Larry is just too accurate and Frazier's "Bob n Weave" slows as the rounds mount. Larry's jab never loses it's accuracy.

In my opinion this fight could really go either way. Frazier was always at his best against boxers like the first time against Ali with his bobbing and weaving style setting up his great left hooks. Larry Holmes was a lot like Ali as he was very fast and had a ramrod for a jab setting up his power punches. He was also very tough and strong willed as he proved against Norton and Shavers. This fight would be a lot like Frazier vs Ali and Holmes vs Norton with a lot of great exchanges. Larry would land the higher volume of punches with his great jab in an attempt to keep Frazier off of him who would look to get inside and throw his devastating left hooks to the head and body. Holmes would block a lot of them but not all and would have to hold several times during the fight to clear the cobwebs. By the start of round 15 both men would show the effects of a tough fight with Fraziers eyes all puffy and Holmes bleeding from the mouth. The last round would see both men going all out in spectacular fashion with the crowd on it's feet. The fight is close and it's hard to pick a winner, but Holmes comes away with a split decision victory in a fight for the ages.
Larry could outbox Frazier for many the combat. I do think of Joe could have his moments a visit to the canvas for Larry would not be out of the question. although i think of Holmes wins an intensive determination.l
holmes has a ramrod jab, and size, weight & reach advantages, but frazier is relentless, with his aggression and that famous left hook.
holmes will try to keep the fight at long range, while frazier once in a while breaks through to keep the fight razor close, but in the end, holmes wins a tough, close decision, probably collapsing afterward like he did against smokin' joe's best friend kenny norton.
Frazier had had problems with big and mobile boxer-punchers like Ali and Foreman. Holmes was an Ali clone who was all-business in a fight. He never clowned around like his mentor and always trained hard. I think Holmes will win by UD.
Larry Holmes is criminally underrated, mainly because he followed Ali. I see his fight being like his fight against Earnie Shavers. He might get rocked, but he had good recuperative powers and would win by either a decision or late stoppage.
frazier left hook good night joe in 5
Holmes, because he has longer reach.
