a hiring company is having training class for marine consultants, working on oil rig,im trying to get on as a cook, they want 215 dollars for a pec training course,8 hours, was wandering if this sounds right to anybody,he said no experience needed ,i look on line at the web site and it said they offer a 3 day class for 800 dollars, and also was wandering if i would have to take that class also, reason im asking is that they will tell you anything for the 215 dollars, need to know what questions to ask before i fork it out, thank you much
Update:thanks zombie, they are having class at 40 beal parkway s.w. in fort walton beach florida, their number is on craigslist, pensacola,or okaloosa walton,i personally think that they are just offering a pec card, cause they told me they are a job placement service,if you want to email me,i will send you the email they sent back to me,[email protected]

If they are going to hire you for a job why would they charge you $215 for 8 hours of training. If they offer a job contract based on successful passing of the course then it might sound legitimate.

They are , as far as I can tell ,a recruiting service that offers to match you with an employer ,their fee is 20 percent of your first paycheck .
They offer some of the basic safety classes at the site in Florida ,but you can take the class from anyone ,anywhere ,I just finished the SafeGulf class here in Louisiana and sent in paperwork today. Which is enough to get me in the system and have them start pairing me with an employer,
and will get my TWIC and my HUET as soon as I can.
For me it's worth the 20 percent to not have to blindly throw my resume around to companies I know nothing about.
I've been a cook / Chef for 12 years but I've never worked offshore .
I've been looking online for a week to find a negative review or a scam warning ,or a BBB report ,and they've come up clean .
Will update after I'm actually placed in a job , but so far I would recommend them as they've been very helpful in getting me started .
I have looked on their site also and was contacted by them today but I got disconnected from them. Did they tell you the course was in FL some where I am still looking into it. I think they are charging for the classes and then charging at the same time for recruitment costs. I have looked at their website and now I am cross referencing it with the oil companies. I am a skilled tradesman in 4 different fields and looking to go out also otherwise I am going to contact a old friend of mine. Will let you in more as I find out more
