Organic compounds' Solubility, Boiling/Melting Points, and Combustibility
There are many ways to describe an organic compound, but below are some of the common characteristics we must know.
Solubility
Solvents with similar characteristics to organic substances tend to dissolve organic compounds easily. "Like dissolves like" is a term used to describe the fact that polar molecules dissolve in polar solvents and non-polar molecules dissolve well in non-polar solvents.
Melting and boiling points
The melting and boiling points of organic molecules are relatively low. Organic molecules have low melting and boiling temperatures because the attractive forces are weak, and it doesn't take much energy to disrupt them.
Combustibility
The flammability of organic substances is exceptionally high. In the organic chemistry laboratory, do not use Bunsen burners. Under the fume hood, keep the organic solvents (hexane and toluene).
