I asked this question in a different category but didn't receive very good answers so I thought I would try it here! 3 weeks ago my son swallowed a quarter and a penny. We had x-rays at 7 days and 14 days and the coins were still in his stomach. Tomorrow will be 21 days and still no sign of the coins! My doctor's office has been closed since last Tuesday and I haven't heard any thing. Has anyone else had a child swallow coins that took this long to come out?

my son swallowed a thumb tack, he lived and it came out, no injury
I don't mean to scare you but I didn't know the answer and went looking and here is what I found: Small coins are among the most common items that children swallow. Swallowed coins generally pass through a child's system uneventfully. Pennies, however, can be especially dangerous if they get stuck. That's because, since 1982, pennies are made almost entirely of zinc. When zinc mixes with stomach acid, it forms a compound as corrosive as battery acid. Pennies begin corroding almost immediately upon exposure to acid. A corroding penny lodged in the stomach can erode the stomach lining and cause an ulcer. If your child swallows a penny, wait one or two days to see if it is passed in the stool. If the coin doesn't appear or if your child has abdominal pain or vomits, seek prompt medical attention. I WOULD CALL THE DR, BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY!
Each of my sons swallowed a penny when they were toddlers. Luckily, the pennies came out in the next bowel movement. Your best bet is to take your son to the ER right away, for another x-ray. They may give him a "special citrus drink" to make his bowels move then & there. Good luck!!!
I swallowed a nut/bolt when I was about 3. Same thing, it came out. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless he complains that his tummy hurts. If that is the case, see another doc because if he has too much metal he could get poisoning.
Press his belly button, maybe you'll get a jackpot!!! No sorry, when my niece was 2 she swallowed a screw. It lodged itself in her stomach, and came out 2 weeks later. Is he in any pain? If he isn't, then I wouldn't be too worried. Good luck.
not coins, a metal hair clip. 2 days later we found it at the other end.
What sort of foods are you giving him? I gave my daughter foods that would stich to it like mashed potato and guide it out the stomach.
Try not to worry, I know its hard.
need to find a better doctor if it hasn't ever passed, sorry what popped into my head about the 26 cent song country song lol..no seriously ya need to get him somewheres is he complaining of hurting?
go to an emergency (backup) doctor but you probably should have gone to the emergency room.
