Answer:
What is an earthquake?
An earthquake is a sudden, rapid shaking of the Earth. It is caused by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface of earth.
What is it like?
An earthquake can feel like a sharp jolt, rolling, and rocking.
A Sharp jolt - the first thing you feel when a large earthquake is near.
Rolling - the feeling of being a nit seasick. Usually happens when a large earthquake is far away.
Rocking - a teeter totter feeling. It happens when a small earthquake is nearby.
What should I do?
During an earthquake you can protect yourself if you immediately DROP, COVER, AND HOLD.
DROP down onto your hands and knees before the earthquake knocks you down. This protects you from falling.
COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) underneath a sturdy table or desk. If there is no shelter nearby, get down near an interior wall or next to low-lying furniture that won’t fall on you, and cover your head and neck with your arms and hands.
HOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops.
If you are inside, stay inside.
DO NOT stand in a doorway.
STAY CALM and DO NOT PANIC!
