This is such a general question so it can only be replied in a general way. Clothing styles and silhouettes changed considerably over the entire 200-year span, and while there may have been inspirations in later decades from the fashions of earlier decades, still the differences are far different than the similarities.
To answer in a general way, the basic similarities are that during the entire period men wore shirts,trousers, coats, sometimes vests, and sometimes neckties or neck cloths. During this whole period that you're talking about women continued to wear dresses, either one piece or two piece, and though the underclothing changed dramatically from 1800 to 1999, the underclothing ranged from simple shifts or slips to hooped cages to full petticoats. Hemlines rose and fell over the decades but there was always a hemline somewhere.
Maybe the most common thread and similarity in this entire era were that there were many people who followed fashion and its trends and it's dictums and wanted to present themselves in the height of their current fashion, whether for status, self-expression and confidence, or societal pressures.
