My project car has a trunk floor that is rusted through in a few dime-sized areas and there is about a one foot square area that is rusty with weakened metal. I have already coated it with Permatex rust converter (the stuff that turns hard, black, and paintable). Is there something that I can do -without- welding to reinforce this area and make it smoother?
Once the car is road-worthy it will go to a shop to weld in new sheetmetal so it is fixed correctly.
I heard fiberglass mats can be used but have substantial drawbacks. Is there something better?
I live in an apartment in La Jolla with nowhere to do welding work.

yes plywood or a oil drip pan made for a garage floor.hell you could shape it, seal it and rivet it in especially since youve stated it needs replaced anyway.thatll hold you till you can do it right, or even small patches that are just glued in with epoxy.fiberglass will also work, but pop rivets are very easy, they are aluminum so they dont rust, they are east to drill and punch, and cheap, and they will last quite awhile used to just patch the holes. you could cover em with your trunk carpet and look at em when convenient.hardly any mess and no fumes or itchywaa
Here is my suggestion , If you can get a drill in there drill a hole big enough to get a bolt and nut on it, Tighten it down tight enough so you can use the chair, I would say a big pop rivet however that might not be strong enough, Try the larger bolt and nut Hold better than a weld, hope this helps
