I have a right hand drive 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and had the same problem about 6 months ago. It turned out to be a faulty computer sensor problem. It was a real pain in the neck to work it out. Because the mechanic had to be in the car with this error reading device plugged into the cars computer under the dash when the ABS light is on, and like you said the light would only come on intermittently.
Your service centre should have one of the error reading devices to plug into your cars computer. So all you can do is soon as the light comes on drive straight to Jeep and get them to test it. Don't turn your car off if that's possible, because you run the risk that when to do restart your car the light doesn't come back on and you have waisted your time going there.
The other problem I have started to have is the brake light switch gets stuck on (the brake light switch is were the brake peddle is) and if I don't notice the brake lights still on after I have got out of the jeep it flattens my car battery. Have you experienced this problem yet?
between the sensors is providing you with a difficulty. whilst the sunshine is on the ABS device isn't working so which you have popular braking device,no longer an anti skid device that ABS is. this implies interior the rain or snow a variety of of wheels can lock and slide as a replace of the pc controlled braking the ABS supplies......George
Good advice on the brakes, and use an Elictric Contact spray on the brake lite switch, Spray it into the switch, and work it open/close seceral times, clear it out with air
You could have a wheel sensor going bad or not getting a good connection. Any good mechanic could clean the sensors and test them for you.
Its about to go. Get your brakes checked.
get it checked. ABS does not normally get used unless you are braking v heavily. == emergencies! so you prob. don't actually know it's not working. It's only your family's lives at stake......
about 80 percent of the time it is one of the wheel speed sensors. and is usually the diff mounted one
