I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt 2.2L LT automatic transmission. I currently have 95,600 miles on the vehicle. I have been very proactive with oil changes and filter changes. My question is when should I budget/replace timing belt/chain? I had a 2004 Chevy Aveo and the timing belt snapped at 84,000 miles and essentially rendered the vehicle useless. I want to prevent this reoccurrence with my 2009 Cobalt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Timing belt/chain for 2009 Chevy Cobalt LT?
Verified answer
These 2.2 liter engines are known for the timing chain guides and tensioners wearing out . If you start hearing a rattling noise right when you start the car for a couple seconds that is the first sign the chain is getting loose due to one of the above starting to fail .

Your car has a chain. As long as the oil is changed regularly, then the chain will stay lubed. No required service interval on most all timing chains.
Brent is correct, timing chains do not require replacements unless they are stretched from lack of oil changes. Change the oil at the regular intervals & you will be good
