Answer:
There are two main types of cells:
1. Prokaryotic Cells - These cells are simple and do not have a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles. Prokaryotic cells are typically smaller than eukaryotic cells and are found in bacteria and archaea.
Examples of prokaryotic cells include:
- Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria, which is commonly found in the human gut and is important for digestion.
- Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, which can cause pneumonia and other infections.
2. Eukaryotic Cells - These cells are more complex than prokaryotic cells and have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles, such as mitochondria and lysosomes. Eukaryotic cells are found in animals, plants, fungi, and protists.
Examples of eukaryotic cells include:
- Human skin cells, which have a nucleus and are responsible for protecting the body from the environment.
- Leaf cells in plants, which have chloroplasts and are responsible for photosynthesis.
- Yeast cells, which are a type of fungus and are used in the production of bread and beer.
