I understand your confusion.
Yes. The Aspire 5517 was sold with either an Athlon 64 (single core) or Athlon 64 X2 (dual core) processor. Both of these processors have the same socket type (S1) so, theoretically, one could replace an Athlon 64 with an Athlon 64 X2. Since this is so, what other AMD processors could one just, sort of, pop in? Well, almost any AMD processor that has an S1 socket type and the Turion 64 X2 is one of them. But this is where the page that you read doesn't make sense since the Turion 64 X2 runs at 1.6 GHz. BUT, the Turion II Ultra Dual Core runs at 4.4 GHz!
Confused yet? Me too! (but, not really because I've been down this road before)
The answer that you need to hear is that your Athlon 64 single-core can be replaced with a dual-core if you were 100% sure that your laptop wouldn't get destroyed in the process! I can tell you without hesitation that anyone who tells you it's "quick and easy" is a total fool. Taking a laptop apart IS easy. I can do it with just a hammer! Any jerk can do that. Swapping-out the processor and putting it back together correctly so that everything works as well or better? That IS NOT so easy!
