Death Note was awesome, it was my first brain-teaser anime!
Anyways, onwards to the question. Here're some anime, manga, jdrama you might like.
Liar Game (Manga/ Jdrama)
Nao Kanzaki, an honest college student, receives 100 million yen (about $1,000,000) one day, along with a card saying that she has been chosen to participate in the "Liar Game Tournament". In order to win the game, she is to steal the 100 million yen issued to her sole opponent, and to keep hers safe. Upon finding out to her opponent is her former teacher Kazuo Fujisawa, she misplaces her trust in him and is easily deceived. Knowing that losing the game will put her in debt, a lawyer tells her of Shinichi Akiyama, a genius swindler.
Kurosagi (Jdrama)
Kurosagi is based on a young man seeking revenge on the "shirosagi" (or white swindlers who swindle by defrauding others) by swindling them out of most if not all of their money then sending evidence to the police capable of putting them in prison. Six years prior to the show, Kurosaki's father was swindled out of his money... because of this, his father killed Kurosaki's mother and brother followed by committing suicide himself. Kurosaki then becomes a swindler himself, a kurosagi (The Black Swindler who swindles other swindlers). By doing this he helps the innocent people who got swindled by the culprits and gets their money back. In this whole scheme, Kurosagi is met with a stubborn grad student, pursuing to be a prosecutor.
Doubt (Manga)
In a premise similar to the mafia game, the series focuses on the "Rabbit Doubt" cell phone game, in which the players must find the wolf, or killer, amongst their group of rabbits as they are picked off one-by-one. Six players of this game find themselves trapped in a building with one of the group already dead; to avoid the same fate, the remaining five must play a real-life game of "Rabbit Doubt" and find the wolf hiding among them.
Kuroshitsuji (Anime/ Manga)
In a manor house on the outskirts of Victorian era London, butler Sebastian Michaelis serves Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old head of an English noble family as well as a toy and candy empire. Sebastian carries out any task required by his master and solves the problems plaguing England with ease and perfections because of his demonic lineage and Faustian contract with his master.
Code Geass (Anime/manga)
On August 10, 2010, a.t.b., the Holy Empire of Britannia overpowered Japanese forces and conquered the country with their new, powerful, robotic weapons, the Knightmare Frames, in less than a month. In the aftermath of Britannia's invasion, Japan lost its freedom, its rights, and even its name, becoming Area 11 of the Britannian Empire. The Japanese people, renamed as "Elevens", are forced to survive in poor neighborhoods, while Britannians live in first-class settlements. Rebel elements persist, however, as pockets of Japanese organizations struggle against the Empire for the independence of Japan.
After his father, the Emperor of Britannia, failed to prevent the assassination of his mother, an attack which also left his sister blind and crippled, the young prince Lelouch vowed to destroy Britannia. Seven years later, he accidentally becomes mixed up with "terrorists" in Area 11 and encounters a mysterious girl named C.C., who gives him the power of Geass. With it, he finally has the power that he needs to defeat Britannia and fulfill his two wishes: to seek revenge for his mother and to construct a world in which his beloved sister Nunnally can live happily.
Code Geass. Many compare it to Death Note. But it's more brilliant. I was always 2 steps ahead of Light, but miles behind Lelouch.
It has around the same # of episodes. 52 IIRC.
MAN you just ruined death note for me didn't you -sigh-
I was going to buy that series to watch it too =/
anyway. Cowboy Bebop is a less serious anime with a fantastic male lead character who is super kickass. Check it out =)
