Answer:
Both UN and ASEAN are Intergovernmental organizations. The difference between them is endless since they both operate at different levels with different objectives and functions. Some of the main differences between them are as follows:
United nation is Intergovernmental organization at Global level comprising of 193 nations, While ASEAN is a regional Intergovernmental organization involving 10 south east asian nations
ASEAN deals with economic growth, social progress and cultural development of these 10 south east asian nations only while UN deals with international peace and security, human rights alongwith many other various functions apart from just economic, social and cultural development.
UN was founded by American President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who issued a declaration, which was signed by representatives of 26 countries, called the “United Nations.” On the other hand Asean was established with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by its founding fathers - Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
In UN - General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN, often called as “world’s parliament”, While in ASEAN - ASEAN Summit is the supreme policy making body of ASEAN.
