Answer:In Spanish Colonial period,scientific institution was introduced aside of formal education that brought sanitation and more advanced methods of agriculture in the Philippine archipelago's natives for improvement.The Spanish friars also contributed to academics and science aside from religion as the friars are the first scientists to improve the natives' lives and discover the potential for the improvement of the people.They also contributed to the fields of engineering that built many infrastructure projects from government buildings,churches,forts,roads and bridges to railroad (Manila-Dagupan line).The study of medicine and biology is usually the given focus for study the natural potential of the flora and fauna for the economy and the people.However,the Galleon trade is more focused than the agricultural and industrial development as relatively neglected,so since the opening of the Suez canal,many European people visited the colony and some Filipinos also studied in Europe that also influencing the Era of Enlightenment's scientific ideas.
Compared to the American period, science and technology was more modernized and prioritized than the Spanish period does as primarily focused on research for the tropical diseases, agriculture,food processing,forestry,medicine and pharmacy.However the industrial technology wasn't much focused due the free trade agreement between the United States and the Philippines.
