Answer:
According to the World Bank's "Alleviating Poverty" video (AVP), poverty is a lack of access to the resources and opportunities necessary for a person to live a healthy, productive life. It can involve a lack of access to basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter, and healthcare, as well as a lack of opportunities for education, employment, and participation in the decision-making processes that affect one's life.
In my own words, I would say that poverty is a state of being in which an individual or group lacks the means to meet their basic needs and achieve a decent standard of living. It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as low income, lack of education, social exclusion, and systemic discrimination. Poverty can have far-reaching consequences, including poor health, limited educational opportunities, and reduced access to economic and social opportunities. It can also perpetuate a cycle of poverty, as those who are impoverished may lack the resources to improve their circumstances.
