Newton's Third Law of Motion states that for every force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. These two forces are commonly known as the action-reaction forces. In other words, whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object will always exert a force of equal magnitude but opposite in direction. Consider a person pushing on a wall. The wall will exert an equal but opposite force on the person's hand. So no matter how hard the person pushes, the wall will push back with the same magnitude. This is true for objects at rest and in motion.
