I’m not certain of my beliefs, although I’m fairly confident in them. Certainty implies something more than belief—objective truth, for instance. The truth is, very few mentally healthy people are truly certain of their beliefs. They are always seeking new information and considering contradictory input. For that reason, most people’s beliefs change as they age and learn, although not always dramatically. In my view, life is better lived without certainty. All certainty does is to close your mind. Oddly enough, this attitude increases your confidence in your beliefs, since you know you have given serious consideration to other beliefs.
