As with many shows the towns are not given states.Yes in Green Acres "Times Square" was mentioned but no state given so the viewer could only imagine where it is.
Mayberry was a fictious town in North Carolina modeled after Mount Airy.
So bottom line is Hooterville is anywhere you want it to be.
Mayberry was in North Carolina, but what state Hooterville was in was never mentioned on Green Acres.
In Green Acres, they always kept it a secret where Hooterville was located. It was meant to represent mainstream, "country", USA.
The same way they kept "Springfield" a secret in The Simpsons series.
As for Mayberry; Mayberry was located in North Carolina in the series, and was modeled after Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina.
The show mentioned Chicago and Joliet, so I assume its in Illinois.
