Aristotle's Concept
Before we talk about Galileo's experiment, let's know Aristotle's concept which he said that the natural state of a body was at rest, if there is no force that acts on the body, it remains at rest. In that concept, Galileo opposed that concept. He said that the natural state of body is in uniform of motion, if no force is acts on a body, it remains in uniform motion. Now, he created the experiment called "On motion" which he proposed the concept from two thoughts experiment.
Galileo's Thought Experiment
To know the first thought of Galileo experiment, we need to consider that an inclined plane is smooth. From the Fig 1, if we leave the ball alone down the inclined plane, its speed will increases. From the Fig 2, if we push upwards to the inclined plane, its speed will decreases. From the Fig 3, if we push a ball on a horizontal plane, its speed remains constant.
From that experiment we know that Galileo's thought was proposed that natural state of a body is at rest then in its third case the body would not move constantly.
Proving 2nd Galileo's Thoughts

Taking the two experiments of Galileo's thought is consideration of Aristotle's statement was discarded. He said that the natural state of body is constant motion until an external force was applied on it.
Based on Aristotle, that the natural state of a body was in a rest. If no force is acting on the body, it will remains rest. In that case, Galileo was challenged this statement and make an experiment with his thougths. Now, he said that after the experiment, that there is natural state of a body is constant motion until an external force is being applied to it.
