What's In Before we proceed, let us recall our previous lesson. Can you still remember the steps in finding the percentage of a number? Remember that percentage is a part of a whole. The whole or total of which the percentage is just a part is what we refer to as the base; while the number which is usually expressed in percent or has the percent sign (96) is the rate. In situations where we are trying to find the percentage of a number, we use the formula: Percentage = Rate x Base or P = R X B. R is usually expressed in percent, or as a decimal or a fraction. Usually too, P is less than B, but only if R is less than 100%. But if R is greater than 100%, B would be less than P. You may also use Techans triangle which is shown below.
