iTunes is quite cheap at .99 cents per song with 1.99 at most.
They have a good selection as well.
It may not be the cheapest, but iTunes is hands down the best way to download music.

I've seen a lot of mp3 sites, but this one has by far the biggest collection of music on the internet. You'll have to pay some cents for each song, but it's worth it.
And it's much cheaper than iTunes! iTunes is only recommended by those who haven't done much research. I doubt they even know about http://www.delit.net/ .

There's also rent-a-song type operations like what Yahoo has .
